Why is Our French Bulldog Being Aggressive?

We thought we did everything right when it came to socialization but boy were we wrong. Ever since Tink was old enough we have been taking her to dog parks and encouraging her to play with other dogs every chance we get. She wrestles, nuzzles up and even plays the classic game of chase and fetch with all the other dogs at the park. However when we are home in our condo complex Tink is very territorial. Any dog we encounter on our way to or from our front door Tink makes sure they know she is the boss. The intensity and aggression coming from this otherwise extremely sweet puppy is very scary and confusing. It is often embarrassing when we have guests bring their dogs over to our house to play because Tink will not stop attacking them. Although she has never hurt another dog we are worried what she must be going through internally when she encounters another dog in her space, her facial expressions and the hair on her back show us she is very uncomfortable and not at ease.

We were thinking it may have something to do with our newest addition Chubs. Ever since we got Chubs Tink has been very jealous she always makes sure that all the attention is given to her and as soon as we show Chubs the slightest bit of attention (even saying hi) she races over to get in our face and give us a million kisses. Perhaps she feels that any dog in her territory is going to come between us and her and might be staying for good.  Our 2 french bulldogs play very nicely and we can tell she loves him but as soon as our attention is distracted from her she is extremely jealous and it almost seems as if she doesn’t like him.

Frenchie Tink and Doggy Bone

Tink is by far the sweetest Frenchie in the world and she is extremely friendly to any stranger we meet or any of her friends that come over, everybody loves her and thinks she is the sweetest dog in the world. So why is she so aggressive to other dogs in her territory??? Please help we are so lost!

Chubs at Kate Sessions Park

While catching up on some old videos of Tink and Chubs we ran into this one…

This is a video of our French bulldog Chubs chasing me around Kate Session’s Park here in SD. This is also at the same time Tink got stung by a bee and broke out in hives mentioned in the post prior to this one. The whole time we are filming our cute little 3 month old frenchie chase me around, Tink was no where to be found. Why? most likely because she was busy chasing and eating bees that she’s  allergic to. She loves to chase bees, grasshopper, butterflies, possums and other little dogs. Tink is a wild and very mischievous girl. We know if she isn’t in our face buttin’ into our business, she’s somewhere getting into trouble.

We gotta keep our eye on that girl.

Our French Bulldog is Allergic to Bees

Our Frenchie Tink was playing at her favorite park one Saturday afternoon when she saw a little bee crossing her path. Tink thought it would be fun to chase this bee and when she finally caught it boy was she in for a surprise. On the ride home from the park James and I noticed her chin was a little red, we had tried to stop her from chasing the bee but we were too late and poor little Tink got stung on the mouth. When we got out of the car to go up to our place Tink started throwing up. When we got in the house she reverted to a corner of the house as if she was embarrassed by her appearance and five minutes later Tink was covered in bumps.

This picture is 5 minutes after we got home.

Apparently our french bulldog had an allergic reaction to the bee sting. We immediately called the vet and they instructed us to give her Benadryl and track her progress. She would hardly eat anything but we somehow managed to stuff some pills down her throat. 20 minutes later, our little french bulldog pup was back to normal and had no more signs of bumps. It was the scariest 30 minutes of ours lives.

At this point we are strongly considering pet health insurance.
